Setting up a PayPal account

For processing online payments, SuperSaaS works with PayPal, one of the largest payment providers in the world. The advantage of using PayPal instead of handling credit cards ourselves is that neither you nor your customers are required to trust anyone other than PayPal with your credit card details. Furthermore, it is free for you to set up an account with them and it is free for your clients to use. In most countries your clients do not even need to have their own PayPal account. SuperSaaS does not charge you for use of the payment system but PayPal will charge you a percentage of any payments processed, please refer to PayPal’s website for more details.

PayPal

Setting up your PayPal account and making it work with SuperSaaS only takes a few simple steps:

  1. Assuming you do not already have one, sign up for a free Standard Account on the PayPal website. You can also upgrade an existing personal PayPal account to a Business account, but please make sure you understand the differences before you do so
  2. When forwarding payments to PayPal, SuperSaaS uses your SuperSaaS administrator email address as your PayPal ID. If you have signed up with PayPal using a different email address, you need to add your SuperSaaS administrator email address to your PayPal profile. You can do so under Profile > Email

    Alternatively, you can tell the SuperSaaS system to use a different email address when forwarding payments to PayPal by using a magic word ($gateway{paypal example@example.com}) in the message shown at the top of the shop page

    In the menu on the right-hand side of your screen, select the option Payment Setup under the yellow section “Preferences”. This takes you to the Payment Setup screen

    At the bottom of the section “Credit System”, you find the field “Message to show at the top of the shop page”. In order for SuperSaaS to use, for example, the email address payment@mycompany.com as your PayPal ID, you would add the following magic word to your message: $gateway{paypal payment@mycompany.com}

  3. In order to be able to transfer money you have received via PayPal out of your PayPal account, you need to provide PayPal with your credit card or bank account information. You can postpone doing this until you have actually received money via PayPal, but please note that getting your credit card or bank account confirmed may take a few days
  4. Under “Profile” you should also have a look at the section “My Selling Tools” and the subcategory “Sales Tax” and make any changes appropriate to your situation. In the subcategory “Custom Payment Pages” you can upload your own logo, which will then be included in the Payment page shown to your clients
  5. On the “Website Preferences” page you might want to check PayPal account optional. That way your clients do not need their own PayPal account in order to make a payment to you. Note that none of the technical settings need to be configured; they will be communicated by SuperSaaS when a payment is made. Any settings on the “Instant Payment Notification” page will be ignored
